Originally announced well in advance to give everyone time to prepare, the rules are now confirmed. From 18 November 2025, ID verification becomes a legal requirement for all company directors and people with significant control (PSCs). Acting early will save you stress later — leaving it too late could mean delays with filings, complications, or even fines.
At Biking Bookkeeper, we’ll make sure you’ve got clear steps and support so you can tick this off without hassle.
Who Must Verify?
-
New directors and PSCs: Must verify immediately upon appointment or incorporation.
-
Existing directors and PSCs: Have a 12-month grace period, completing verification by their next confirmation statement.
Why It Matters
-
It’s a legal requirement. Without verification, filings may be rejected, you risk fines, and individuals may be disqualified from acting in their roles.
-
The reform is part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, aimed at reducing fraud and improving data integrity.
How to Verify Your Identity
1. Via GOV.UK One Login (Direct)
-
Use GOV.UK One Login to verify with a passport or photocard driving licence—quick, online, and free.
-
Upon success, you’ll receive a unique personal code to link your verified identity to Companies House.
2. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)
-
You can opt for a regulated provider—like an accountant or solicitor—to verify on your behalf. They must be registered and supervised under AML regulations.
-
The ACSP will conduct checks and file under your behalf.
